Garth Webb Program OverviewCourse Selection Information
The 2018-2019 course selection process is now open. To begin this process, each student will need to log on to www.myBlueprint.ca/halton/ using their school login and password. Student will add individual courses using the Official High School Planner. All available GWSS courses, including complete course descriptions can be viewed. If they are having difficulty logging in, please visit the Student Services department for support. Course selection must be completed by Friday, February 16, 2018
A student entering Grades 10 or 11 must select eight(8) courses. Students entering grade 11 are encouraged to look ahead at Grade 12 courses to review prerequisites. It is recommended that students complete all the ‘Group’ compulsory credits by the end of Grade 11. A student behind in credits or compulsory classes should plan to attend summer school or choose to repeat/add a course as part of their selections. In addition to courses offered at Garth Webb Secondary School, a number of online courses are also available through the Halton District School Board and may be chosen if appropriate to the situation and/or student learning style. Also, a reminder that successful completion of the Grade 10 Literacy Test and 40 hours of community service are requirements for graduation.
It is important that students make well planned, thought out, researched course selections in order for us to build the best timetable for our students, as these selections determine our staffing allocations and confirm our GWSS course offerings for the 2018-2019 school year. We encourage students to speak with their family, teachers and guidance counsellors about the courses they have selected. Once our timetable is set, students have more difficulty in making changes because they are limited in the choices (by period) that are available.
Here are some things to keep in mind:
- College and University programs have certain requirements for admission. When researching, students are encouraged to investigate programs of interest and determine what courses are required for admission. Please pay special attention to this. Students sometimes do not realize that they are missing a requirement for their desired program until it is too late. We encourage you and/or your student to make an appointment with a Guidance Counsellor to discuss pathway/program options.
- With so many diverse programs, it is important to talk to your student about their future early on and to research as much as possible. The more you know, the easier and less stressful the decision making process is in Grade 12.
